Katherine MurdockViolist Katherine Murdock is recognized as a soloist, chamber musician, and teacher. She has performed throughout the world with such groups as the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, Boston Symphony, National Symphony, New York Philharmonic, and Boston Chamber Music Society. She was a member of the Mendelssohn String Quartet for seven years. As a participant in the Marlboro festival, she toured with Music From Marlboro and played on their 40th anniversary concerts in New York and Philadelphia. She has performed live on NPR, West German Radio, and BBC. Guest appearances include the Emerson, Vermeer, and Guarneri string quartets, as well as the Beaux Arts Trio.

Katherine Murdock received musical training at Oberlin College and Yale University; her teachers and mentors have included Karen Tuttle, Joseph Silverstein, Sándor Végh, Eugene Lehner, Felix Galimir, Robert Mann, and William Primrose. Katherine served for nine years on the faculty of SUNY Stony Brook, following positions at Boston Conservatory, Wellesley College, Longy School of Music, University of Delaware, and University of Hartford. She spent five years as a Blodgett Artist-in-Residence at Harvard University with the Mendelssohn Quartet. An artist faculty at Yellow Barn and Kneisel Hall festivals for the past 25 summers, she now teaches at the University of Maryland. Tours include New Zealand, as a guest of the New Zealand String Quartet, and recent masterclasses and concerts throughout the US, Turkey, Taiwan, Guatemala, and Brazil, as well as virtual master classes in Iran. A member of the Los Angeles Piano Quartet for 21 years, she currently plays with the Left Bank Quartet of Washington DC.
