Described as “assured, brilliant, and stylish” by The New York Times, violist Kyle Armbrust has cultivated a multi-dimensional career since his New York debut with Kurt Masur and the Juilliard Orchestra.
A champion of contemporary music, Kyle is a member of the International Contemporary Ensemble, and works with many of the most creative composers and unique voices of our time. With ICE, Kyle has performed at the Darmstadt Festival and Wien Modern in 2025, and is featured on vibraphonist Patricia Brennan’s 2025 album, Of the Near and Far. As a founding member of the Grammy-nominated Knights Chamber Orchestra, he has collaborated with artists like Bela Fleck, Pekka Kuusisto, Yo-Yo Ma, Cécile McLorin Salvant, Gil Shaham, Chris Thile, and Dawn Upshaw. His dedication to chamber music has led to appearances with the Kaleidoscope Chamber Collective, JACK, Miró, and Formosa quartets, and the Marlboro Music Festival. Kyle has performed as Principal Viola with the Mahler Chamber Orchestra and Melbourne Symphony, and is a substitute member of the Philadelphia Orchestra and Hawai’i Symphony. He has recorded for the ECM, Sony, and Tzadik labels, and plays a 1752 Carlo Antonio Testore viola made in Milan.
